I still remeber the first time I watched Alien.  My parents, who for some reason never had a problem taking me and my twin brother to R-rated movies when we were kids, took us to see Ridley Scott's Alien in 1979.  I never spent more time hiding in a movie theater bathroom than I did that night.

The "Space Jockey" from the original movie Alien, directed by Ridley Scott

Years later, when I was in college, I recall renting the VHS copy of Alien and being totally mezmorized by the "derilict" space ship with that giant and dead alien...  also know in sci-fi circles as the "Space-Jockey."  It is rumored that this creature engineers DNA and creates life and is also tasked with teraforming dead planets.  Anyway, the Space Jockey in the movie Alien was dead with multiple large puncture wounds "exiting" his chest... supposedly from implanted "xenomorphs", you know, the aliens we see running around making life rough for the crews of the Alien series.

The origin of the human race
...or it's end?

Ridley Scott is not giving a whole lot of information right now and is still trying to keep things on the "down low" in Hollywood.  I've been surfing the web gathering plot ideas and possible leaks from various sources.  And I can tell you with confidence Prometheus is going to be totally bad ass of epic proportions!

Prometheus is the name of the human space ship that is tasked with traveling to a far and dark corner of the universe after archeologits on earth discovered ancient artifacts that not only give clues to the origins of the human race, but also give coordinates to our possible creators... the Space Jockeys!  Ridley Scott claims this movie is not about the original aliens, but there are rumors the Space Jockeys and the Xenomorphs from the orignal Space Jockey's chest will definitely be apart of the movies climax.

The movie is to be released June of this year... and I cannot wait!

First full trailer for the sci-fi movie Prometheus, directed by Ridley Scott

My wife and I saw Alien when we were stationed in Japan and she was pregnant at the time. Guess what the baby decided to do during the movie? Guess what movie my wife never wants to watch again? Ha ha!

I loved Alien. It was the last movie I have watched that I considered to be "scary." I am not a fan of the rest of the franchise -- yeah, I may be alone on that, because people love Aliens -- I don't care. I was not enthused when the news of Prometheus broke, but I'll give Ridley Scott, director of my all-time favorite, Blade Runner, the benefit of the doubt. Here's hoping that he breathes life into a long-suffering storyline.

The Opposition, you know, you and I think alot alike... weird and cool. :)

I'm with you on the Alien series... I could care less about Alien III and the others, but the original Alien and the Alien Director's Cut are really, really good. I also love John Carpenters version of The Thing.

Like I mentioned in the article, I've also been fascinated with the "Space Jockey" and had wondered over the years if Ridley Scott would do "anything" with him.

Well, of course, I watched the trailer! How could I not? It does look very cool and it will be interesting to see what the Space Jockey was all about. I always wondered how somebody that big could fall prey to the alien guys. I guess we'll find out!

There have been very few movies that I've really looked forward to in the past five years. This is one of them. I like the original, and Aliens wasn't bad (not a big fan of the rest), but this looks like it has the potential to be as good as any of them.

The jockey is fairly iconic, they still sell prints and models....which isn't bad for something that got mere seconds on screen and nobody ever actually knew anything about.

When Cain and the others were checking out the "Derilict" space ship in the original Alien, the "Space Jockey" was that huge creature sitting in that chair/cock pit in that really large room. They checked him out and then Cain went down thru the floor and discovered that huge chamber full of eggs covered with the blue mist.

I always thought the Space Jockey had been the pilot of the derilict space ship and he had been killed by the xenomorphs.

Found some "plot leaks" online... supposedly accurate too.

I've also watched the Alien Directors Cut like a hundred times! :)

Little Sure Shot

I always thought the Space Jockey had been the pilot of the derilict space ship and he had been killed by the xenomorphs.

If you get a chance to see that scene again, you will notice a gaping hole in his abdomen. Like Cain, he was an incubator for an alien.

I trust Ridley Scott to give us a fine roller-coaster of a movie running on the rails of message.

The trailer is awesome, and very similar to the original Alien trailers. I'll bet this is to set us up for something that is kind of similar yet still very different.

This will be a must see in my favorite theater. Nothing less will do.

I'd watch anything that had a name like "Prometheus"! I loved the first Aliens, too. The second was alright but the rest really didn't do it for me. The trailer is too broken up, like a random bunch of stills. I'd much rather see longer clips but again, I'd watch pretty much anything with the name Prometheus in the title.

Oh No!... the scar on my arm took years to fade!...

You see I went with my soon to be future Ex-wife to see Alien at the theater.

About half way through I had to tell her, "Let go of my Arm!"

Talk about a death grip.

Thanks for the memories. Ow!

OMG did that ever scare the daylights and all else out of me too. Scarier than JAWS even, and that was the summer NOBODY went swimming. Even lakes and swimming pools stood empty! LOL! Unbelievable movie.

This promo looks like it will be as awesome as the first Alien. Really looking forward to it!

All time best Ridley Scott film ever, has to be Blade Runner.

The original Alien is still one of my all time favorite films. It is ground breaking, and a true work of genius, just like Ridley Scott's other great film, Blade runner. I have always been fascinated with the Alien creature. It is in equal measure, grotesque and beautiful. Frightening, and seductive, or as Ash says, the perfect organism. It's structural perfection, equaled only by it's hostility. Yes,I can't wait to see Prometheus....This is going to be really interesting.

I was 7 for Jaws and 11 when I saw Alien in the theater and those 2 ruined me for life in a good way! I have since become a junkie for a good scary movie. And it is VERY hard to find a "good" scary movie. I hope this brings back some of those original classic movie jitters! Maybe a nightmare or two :) ... we'll see.
